The Balfour Abdominal Retractor is a cornerstone instrument for general, gynecological, and urological surgeries. Engineered to provide expansive, self-retaining exposure of the abdominal cavity, this retractor features a robust frame with lateral wire blades and a customizable center blade (bladder blade).

Manufactured from high-tensile AISI-304/420 Stainless Steel, the Balfour system is designed for heavy-duty retraction while ensuring patient safety through smooth, rounded contours.

Standard Configuration Models

Model A: Standard Adult

  • Lateral Wire Blades: 2″ Deep (5 cm)
  • Center Blade: 3-5/8″ Wide x 1-3/4″ Deep (9 x 4.5 cm)
  • Maximum Spread: 7″ (18 cm)
  • Ideal for standard abdominal wall retraction and routine laparotomy.

Model B: Deep / Bariatric

  • Lateral Wire Blades: 4-3/8″ Deep (11 cm)
  • Center Blade: 4-3/16″ Deep x 2-1/2″ Wide (10.5 x 6.5 cm)
  • Maximum Spread: 7″ (18 cm)
  • Designed for deep-cavity access and patients with thicker abdominal walls.

Available Variations & Customizations

To support diverse surgical environments, we offer the following expanded variations:

  • Solid Lateral Blades: Replaces the standard wire frames with solid stainless steel blades to prevent tissue protrusion between wires.
  • Pediatric Balfour: Featuring a smaller 4″ (10 cm) spread and 1″ deep blades for neonatal and pediatric surgery.
  • Extended Spread Frame: A modified 10″ (25 cm) or 12″ (30 cm) rack for ultra-wide exposure requirements.
  • Malleable Center Blades: Interchangeable bladder blades available in various widths (from 2.5 cm to 10 cm) that can be manually bent to specific anatomical needs.
  • Swivel Side Blades: Specialized lateral blades that can rotate 360° to provide multi-directional retraction angles.
